چکیده

Inflammation reaction is a rapid process induced by prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) which is one of the yield products of cyclooxygenase (COX) enzyme. Mechanical trauma, corrosive chemicals and antigen-antibody reactions are the most common stimulants of inflammation reaction in the body. PGE2 affects the neurons resulting in systemic inflammation symptoms such as edema, pain and fever 1-2. Three different types of COX enzymes exist in the human body, which are named as COX-1, COX-2 and COX-3. The COX-3 enzyme is a splice variant of COX-1 enzyme that retains intron one and has a frame shift mutation. Depending on this similarity it is sometimes named as COX-1b or COX-1 variant. COX1 and COX-2 types are expressed at different levels in human tissues. Although they are very much similar in fashion, selective inhibition is the discriminating factor in terms of side effects. COX-1 enzyme is generally Hacettepe University Journal of the Faculty of Pharmacy Volume 29 / Number 2 / July 2009 / pp. 115-130

Improving Dissolution of Meloxicam Using Solid Dispersions

Meloxicam is a poorly water soluble non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and antipyretic agent. The aim of the present work was to investigate the effect of different types of carriers on in vitro dissolution of meloxicam. Meloxicam solid dispersions were prepared by physical mixing, co-grinding and solvent evaporation methods with polyethylene glycol (PEG) 6000. The effect of solubilization by...

Comparative Bioequivalence Study of Meloxicam Drugs

The governments of many countries strongly support the production and clinical use of generic medicinal products which are “copies” of patented drugs and can be marked at lower cost. At present time bioequivalence testing is regarded as a useful methodology to perform comparisons among different products containing the same active ingredient. This report presents the results of comparative bioe...

Comparative pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic evaluation of branded and generic formulations of meloxicam in healthy male volunteers

PURPOSE The primary aim of the present study was to assess the pharmacokinetic bioequivalence between a generic formulation of meloxicam 15 mg tablets (Meloxicam Hexal) and its respective brand product (Mobic), in order to verify whether the generic product conforms to the regulatory standards of bioequivalence in the postmarketing setting. As a secondary exploratory aim, the pharmacodynamic ef...

Application of Chemometrics in determination of the effects of ionic and non-ionic surfactants on ac-id dissociation constant (pKa) of Meloxicam using spectrophotometric method

The purpose of this study was to determine the acid dissociation constants (pKa) of meloxicam in the presence of various surfactants including sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as an anionic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) as a cationic surfactant and Triton® TX-100 (TX-100) as a non-ionic surfactant in different pre-determined concentrations. The related pKa was determined spec...
